II-E-4. GEORGE MILLER SIBERT (1874 – 1960), son of George Moore Sibert3 (George2, John David1)

George Miller Sibert was born on 7 August 1872. He died on 2 January 1934 in Beaufort, South Carolina. [1] He married Helen Brown, the daughter of Reverend C.C. Brown on 30 June 1904 in the First Baptist Church in Sumter, South Carolina. [2] Helen was born on 16 July 1876. She died on 26 April 1906, apparently of complications from childbirth.

George and Helen are buried in the Sumter Cemetery in Sumter, Sumter County, South Carolina. The inscriptions on their gravestones say: [3]

According to his obituary: [1]

[George] passed away suddenly while attending a friend's funeral in Beaufort yesterday. He apparently was in the best of health when he entered the church ... but he slumped in his pew when the services were about half over and died of a heart attack.

According to the census, on 25 June 1900, George M., born in August 1872, lived in Troy, Greenwood County, South Carolina with his parents. He attended school. [4]

George's obituary says he was the son of the late George Sibert of Troy. For many years he was in the drug business with his brother Will. He was survived by one son, George Brown Sibert of Sumter; five sisters, Mrs. A.S. Rawls of San Antonio; Mrs. J.Z. Sexton of Seattle; Mrs. G.C. Patterson and Mrs. M.T. Taylor of McCormick; and Mrs. Sarah Holland of Ninety Six; and three brothers, Will and John Sibert of Sumter and T. Jeff Sibert of Troy. His wife was a daughter of Reverend C.C. Brown, a widely known Baptist minister. [1]

II-E-4-a. George Brown Sibert was born on 31 March 1906 in Florence, South Carolina. He died on 12 April 2000 in Sumter. He married Martha Sutherland on 28 October 1934 in Anderson, Anderson County, South Carolina. [5] Martha, the daughter of William Lawrence and Catherine Cox Sutherland was born on 6 April 1906 in Anderson County. She died on 31 January 1995.

George and Martha are buried together in the Sumter Cemetery. Their geneologist-friendly gravestone says: [3]

George's mother died right after his birth and his father did not remarry.

According to George's obituary, he died on 12 April 2000 in Sumter, aged 94, the widower of Martha Sutherland Sibert and the son of George Miller and Helen (Brown) Sibert. He was brought up by his grandfather, Dr. C.C. Brown, and his aunt, Bonnie Brown Sibert [the wife of his uncle William Wesley Sibert]. He was a former owner and operator of Sibert's Drug Store. He was preceded in death by his son Dr. G. Brown Sibert, and survived the three grandchildren and a great-grandchild. [6]

Children of George Brown Sibert and Mary Sutherland:

i. Doctor George Brown Sibert, M.D. was born on 3 February 1937 in Sumter. He died "after a lengthy illness" aged 35, on 29 June 1972 at the home of his parents. [7]

George is buried in the Sumter Cemetery. He has two stones. They say: [3]

George served aboard the U.S.S. Midway as a Navy flight surgeon during the Vietnam War. [7]

George left a wife and two children. [7]
